New Jersey Corona virus School Closure Updates

BERGEN COUNTY

UPDATE: All 75 Bergen County public school districts closing, moving to online learning as coronavirus grows

• The Bergen County Technical Schools and Special Services School District are closing for all students starting Wednesday through Friday, March 20. The county declared a state of emergency on Tuesday.

• Bergenfield schools will operate on an early dismissal schedule Friday, March 13.

• Fair Lawn schools will close on Friday, M arch 13, to make plans for coronavirus.

• Dumont schools will have a half day on Friday, March 13, to prepare for potential school closures related to coronavirus.

Garfield schools will have an early dismissal Friday, March 13, to prepare for school closures if they become necessary.

• Glen Rock Public Schools will be closed on Monday, March 16, so staff can further develop plans in case of long-term school closures.

• Little Ferry schools will close at 12:30 p.m. March 19, to plan with staff to continue education in case of a prolonged closure.

• Mahwah schools will be closed Friday, March 13, so staff can prepare a coronavirus plan.

• North Arlington schools are scheduled to close early Friday, March 13, to continue planning and preparing for a potential school closure, the district superintendent announced.

• The Frisch School, a private school in Paramus announced last week it be closed for several days after dozens of its students were potentially exposed to the coronavirus at a bat mitzvah in New York last month.

BURLINGTON COUNTY

UPDATE: Burlington County public schools will close for over a month to combat spread of coronavirus

• Bordentown Regional School District plans half days Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17.

• Delran schools will operate on delayed opening schedule on Monday and Tuesday in order to plan for the possibility of the state asking the district to shut down due to coronavirus.

CAMDEN COUNTY

• Collingswood and Oaklyn schools will have an early dismissal Friday for staff planning about a potential coronavirus closing.

• Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees is closing at 12:05 p.m. Friday so staff can put together a coronavirus plan.

• Gloucester Township Schools will be on a one-session day (half day), on Friday, March 13.Mount Ephraim Schools are closed Friday, March 13.

• Mount Ephraim Schools are closed Friday, March 13.

ESSEX COUNTY

• Essex County Vocational School District will be closed Saturday, March 14, through Friday, March 27.

• Livingston Public Schools will have an early dismissal on Friday, March 13. All facilities will be closed March 16-27, and students will use remote learning.

• Millburn schools will have an early dismissal Friday, March 13. Beginning Monday, March 16, the schools will be closed for two weeks.

• Montclair schools will be closed on Friday, March 13, for professional development for staff if schools are required to close in the future. The district announced Monday that a staff member was being tested for coronavirus and was in self-quarantine at home until her laboratory results were returned. Beginning Monday, March 16, all school buildings will be closed and remote learning will be implemented. The district will evaluate the need to open schools or remain closed, in approximately two weeks. However, students and parents were asked to prepare as if school buildings would be closed through April 19. If circumstances indicate that the schools stay closed until spring break, they will reopen on Monday, April 20.

• People’s Prep in Newark will be closed until March 16 after a staff member found out that he spent time with people who were in a location where someone who now has a confirmed case of COVID-19 had been at some point earlier in the week.

• South Orange & Maplewood School District will have an early dismissal Friday, March 13.

HUDSON COUNTY

• Bayonne School District will be closed beginning Friday, March 13th, with an anticipated return date of Monday, March 30. Students are off March 13, with no virtual learning.

• The Hoboken Public School District and the Hoboken Charter Schools (Elysian, HoLa, and Hoboken Charter) will close starting Monday, March 16, for two weeks. Each school has made preparations for remote learning programs, and will communicate those plans directly to parents. The Hoboken Public School District will provide breakfast and lunch service to all students who qualify for free and reduced lunch in any of the four public school districts. Meal service will be available for pick up from 8:30-10:30am and can be picked up from the Ninth Street side door (between Clinton and Grand Streets) of the Hoboken High School cafeteria.

• Jersey City School District will close all schools the week of March 16. Schools will be open Friday, March 13, and students will be sent home with assignments. Over the weekend, the district will let students and parents know where and when to pick up meals.

MERCER COUNTY

• Diocese of Trenton shut all schools and religious education programs beginning Monday, March 16, through at least March 27.

• Hamilton Township School District will close schools to students and start remote learning Monday, March 16 for a minimum of two weeks.

• Robbinsville Schools have cancelled events through March 21 and will be close on Friday for staff development in anticipation of possible future closures. On Monday, March 16, they will activate remote learning for all instruction until at least April 3.

• Trenton schools have canceled classes Friday for cleaning.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY

• East Brunswick Public Schools will be closed through Sunday, March 22.

• Edison Township schools will have a single-session day for students Friday, March 13. They will then use an inclement weather day on Monday, March 16 and students should not report to school. Online learning will begin on Tuesday, March 17 and will be in place until further notice.

• Metuchen schools will close Friday, March 13, and remain closed next week, March 16 to 20, for remote learning.

• Middlesex Borough schools are closed Friday, March 13, to make coronavirus plans.

• North Brunswick Township Schools will be closed through Monday, March 16, out of an “abundance of caution” after a confirmed positive case of coronavirus in East Brunswick.

• Old Bridge schools will close Friday, March 13, and Monday, March 16.

• South Brunswick schools were closed Wednesday because a student might have been exposed to coronavirus after two township residents attended a private party in Princeton with two people from Boston who later tested positive for the virus. Remote Learning will also be in effect Friday, March 13.

• Highland Park schools will close on Friday, March 13 after a student had contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus. They will sanitize and potentially close Monday as well. Anything beyond Tuesday will be conducted via remote learning plan.

• Sayreville schools will cancel all classes and activities through Monday, March 16. Beginning Friday, an online learning plan will be implemented.

• Woodbridge schools will be closed next week, from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20. During this time, all school activities will be suspended, including any extracurricular activities, sports, practices, and trips.

MONMOUTH COUNTY

• Brielle School District will have an early dismissal on Monday, March 16.

• Freehold Regional High School District schools will be closed for two weeks, effective Monday, March 16. All extracurricular, athletic events, educational excursions and community gatherings are suspended until further notice.

• Henry Hudson Regional School District, Atlantic Highlands, and Highlands schools will have an early dismissal on Friday, March 13.

• Howell Township Public Schools will operate on a shortened day/early dismissal schedule Monday, March 16.

• Keyport schools will have an early dismissal Friday so staff members can make plans for a potential coronavirus closing.

• Little Silver schools canceled after school activities (excluding aftercare) this week for cleaning.

• Middletown Township Public Schools will institute virtual home instruction beginning Monday, March 16. Virtual home instruction will continue for at least two weeks.

• Monmouth County Vocational School District will be closed to students Friday, March 13, so staff can prepare for remote learning.

• Neptune High School and Neptune Middle School will follow an abbreviated schedule Friday, March 13, and Monday, March 16. High school parent teacher conferences are cancelled for March 13. ECC and elementary schools will follow an abbreviated schedule on Monday, March 16.

• Oceanport School District will be closed Friday, March 13.

• Red Bank Regional High School is closed Wednesday after the sibling of a student tested positive for coronavirus. Starting, Thursday, March 12, the school will transition to a virtual school instructional plan until further notice.

• Shore Regional High School will take precautionary measures and implement an emergency closing on Monday, March 16Beginning on Tuesday, March 17, Shore will “go virtual” as students will still be expected to log onto their devices and interact with their teachers while completing assignments.

• Wall Township Public Schools will transition to a virtual/remote learning environment beginning Monday, March 16. Schools will be closed through March 29 and are planned to reopen on March 30.

• West Long Branch Schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16 for a minimum of one week.

MORRIS COUNTY

• Butler School District will be closed from Friday, March 13 until Friday, March 27. The district is using a snow day on Friday, March 13 to make plans for distance learning, which will begin Monday, March 16.

East Hanover School District will be closed from Friday, March 13, through Friday, March 27. The district plans a snow day Friday. Beginning March 16, schools will transition to distance learning. All “bolt bags” that have not been picked up will be placed in the offices of the East Hanover Police Department where parents can retrieve them.

• Kinnelon School District will be closed as of Monday, March 16, through the end of spring break, April 10.

• Madison Public Schools are suspending all nonessential activities as of Friday, March 13, including extracurricular activities, concerts and field trips. The facilities will be closed to most outside visitors.

• Parsippany-Troy Hills Township schools sent a letter to parents saying they are preparing a plan for students to work remotely and will use their Monday half-day inservice to prepare.

• The Chathams schools will be closed on Friday, March 13 and for a period of two weeks starting Monday. A decision will be made whether to continue the closure by Friday, March 27.

• Washington Township Schools are closed to students Friday, March 13, and Monday, March 16. At-home learning will begin Tuesday, March 17.

OCEAN COUNTY

• Berkeley Township Schools will be closed March 16 through March 27.

• Jackson School District will have a 2-hour delayed opening on Friday to finalize coronavirus preparations and will be closed Monday, March 16 until further notice.

• Toms River Regional Schools will have an early dismissal Friday, March 13.

PASSAIC COUNTY

• Wayne schools are closed Friday for an “extensive” cleaning of our buildings, district officials said.

• Hawthorne Christian Academy has cancelled classes for Wednesday and Thursday with Friday’s status to be determined.

• Pompton Lakes schools will be closed through March 27. Home instruction will start Tuesday, March 17.

• West Milford Schools will have a half-day Friday, March 13. On Monday, March 16, schools will transfer to online learning for at least two weeks.

SOMERSET COUNTY

• Bernards Township School District will close all schools and switch to remote learning Monday, March 16.

• Bridgewater-Raritan schools closed, Friday, March 13 through Friday, March 27. Remote learning will begin Monday, March 16. All field trips, school events, and activities are also postponed, effective Monday, March 16.

• Green Brook Township Public Schools are closing buildings and implementing a distance learning plan effective Monday, March 16, through spring break. Reopening is planned for April 13.

• Montgomery Township Schools are closed to students Friday, March 13. Schools will be closed and students will use distance learning Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27.

UNION COUNTY

• Berkeley Heights schools will have a half day on Friday, March 13 and close on Monday, March 16 for a full day of staff training. Remote learning will begin on Tuesday, March 17.

• Cranford schools will be closed Friday, March 13, as the district puts together its coronavirus plan. They will transition to remote learning starting Monday, March 16 until at least Friday, March 27. The main entrances of all school buildings will be open on Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to allow students to collect belongings they may need for a prolonged closure.

• Elizabeth schools are closing at 12:15 p.m. on Monday for a staff in-service meeting on coronavirus.

• Hillside schools will be closed Friday for a deep cleaning.

• New Providence plans an early dismissal for all schools Friday, March 13. All schools will be closed to students until further notice beginning Monday, March 16.

• Plainfield Public Schools will be closed on Friday, March 13, for coronavirus planning.
